SmallCaptain is a software package for real time rendering of complex maritime environment: harbour landscapes, port buildings, lighthouses, buoys, etc. (Tallinn port environment is shown on the screenshot). It is used together with a ship dynamics simulator. A steersman-trainee can see the port area view and train himself in safe handling the ship within the area for mooring and missing other ships in narrows. Developed in 1994, SmallCaptain provided extremely high performance rate and realistic rendering on low-end PCs, even on 486/33 MHz .
